Kids Shed H1N1 Virus 6 Days After Fever


WebMD News reports on new findings that reinforce the importance of getting school-aged kids vaccinated against H1N1 flu.  The study calls into question how long kids are contagious and will help guide health officials in recommending when kids can go back to school.
...The swine flu appears to act quite differently than the seasonal flu. Young people with swine flu tend to get sicker than older adults, the opposite of what happens with seasonal flu.
The bottom line: make sure your children get the H1N1 vaccination, which is very safe, says Bruce Gellin, MD, MPH, director of the HHS National Vaccine Program Office.
